# How does Look Homeward, Angel develop the theme of Art, Ambition, and the Artistic Temperament?

> Look Homeward, Angel by Thomas Wolfe

## Answer

Look Homeward, Angel by Thomas Wolfe develops Art, Ambition, and the Artistic Temperament across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

Eugene's literary aspirations and his family's incomprehension of his 'queer' artistic nature reflect the conflict between creative hunger and societal expectations, with his desire for a 'brilliant career' clashing with the practical demands of business and law.

The author discusses the creative process of fiction, describing how a novelist turns over half the people in a town to make a single figure, and asserts that all serious work in fiction is autobiographical.

Eugene's obsessive poem-writing and his vivid imaginative life foreshadow his artistic drive and sensitivity.

Eugene views his father's stonecutting as a masterful art that will outlast perishable trades, reflecting on permanence and oblivion.
