## Snapshot

The narrator's beloved friend, dead but unforgotten, whose memory shadows every reflection on tenderness, solitude, and the ache of loving fellow-creatures.

## Who they are

Fanny is the absent intimate to whom Mary's heart keeps returning, invoked as 'my good friend' even amid observations of Swedish manners and peasant sincerity.
