## Who they are

Bisclavaret is a favored baron whose unexplained absences trouble his wife, until he confesses the truth: he becomes a wolf and lives wild in the woods, and only the hiding of his clothes can keep him trapped in beast form. He trusts her with the secret that gives her power over him, and her fear and revulsion become the instrument of his betrayal. The lay asks what happens when the person you love most becomes the person who can unmake you.
