# Hilda — Lady Chatterley’s Lover character guide

> Hilda in Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D. H. Lawrence.

**Role:** supporting

**First appearance:** 0000-i

## Snapshot

Connie's older sister, brisk, well-dressed, and used to being obeyed, who has spent a lifetime managing Connie and does not intend to stop.

## Who they are

Hilda is the practical, slightly censorious sister who drives Connie around in her car and has always dominated her. She has no patience for mysticism or mess, and she is genuinely protective of Connie even as she tries to steer her back into a respectable life. Her presence in the middle stretch of the novel — as driver, chaperone, and reluctant witness — forces Connie to define herself against the very sister who once ruled her.
