# Wei Chang — Kai Lung’s Golden Hours character guide

> Wei Chang in Kai Lung’s Golden Hours by Ernest Bramah.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Wei, Chang

**First appearance:** 0001-kai-lung-s-golden-hours

## Snapshot

A maiden of poised expectancy in the wild fig-tree's shade, she greets Kai Lung with a pearl-like voice and a red blossom between her jade teeth.

## Who they are

She is the bolder of two maidens who linger at the wood's edge on the Loo-chow road, unafraid to question a stranger's honourable name and journeying. Her easy curiosity and encouraging smile draw Kai Lung into talk of his craft, though her companion flees in loud apprehension. She matters because she is the first to test the storyteller's boast that he can fit a tale to any circumstance, setting the pattern of challenge and performance that shapes the book's early encounters.
