> Kiau Sun in Kai Lung’s Golden Hours by Ernest Bramah.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Sun, Kiau

**First appearance:** 0001-kai-lung-s-golden-hours

## Snapshot

A courteous loiterer who trades polished flattery with Kai Lung in a shaded wood, drawing out the storyteller's boasts before vanishing into the road.

## Who they are

Kiau Sun meets Kai Lung at the one shaded spot on the Loo-chow road, where two maidens wait with poised expectancy and a fixed readiness for any emergency. Where her elder companion flees in loud apprehension, Kiau Sun stays, plucking a red blossom and shortening its stalk between jade teeth while she tests the storyteller's craft with pearl-voiced questions. Her curiosity about which tales fill a collecting bowl most reliably turns a chance roadside encounter into a quiet contest of wit and self-presentation.
