> Fa Fei in Kai Lung’s Golden Hours by Ernest Bramah.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** the engaging Fa Fei

**First appearance:** 0001-kai-lung-s-golden-hours

## Snapshot

The engaging Fa Fei, whose mind is liberally stored with accomplishments, meets Kai Lung in the wood with a jade-toothed smile and probing questions.

## Who they are

Fa Fei is one of the two maidens who confront Kai Lung at the wild fig-tree, and she alone remains to question him about his craft while her companion flees. Her curiosity is precise and practical, asking what stories win approval and how a collecting bowl is filled, which flatters and tests the storyteller at once. She matters because she draws out Kai Lung's own account of his art, setting the terms by which his tales will be judged throughout the book.
