A lovely vampire with purple eyes and small sharp teeth, invented by Jurgen's father, who loves Jurgen's imperial title rather than the man.

## Who they are

Florimel becomes Jurgen's wife in the underworld, a courteous and merry companion whose trade is seducing and murdering young men — a vocation Jurgen finds not nice yet cannot stop coaxing her to describe. Her affection, he suspects, is for imperial orbs and sceptres rather than for the real Jurgen, deepening his loneliness as emperor. She matters because she crystallizes his fear that rank isolates him from sincerity, and because her origin in Coth's imaginings makes her a test of what in Hell is actually true.
