## Who they are

Uncle Beeswax lives alone in a shanty-boat upriver, making his living from bee trees, honey, and wild grapes, and he has spent years avoiding the island boys who tease him about his bulbous nose. When two rough men chase him across the creek for no reason he can name, the boys hustle him to safety — and the paper crumpled in his hand hints that his innocent rest stop on a shanty-boat was anything but innocent. His arrival pulls the treasure hunt into a larger, more dangerous world of men who want the same prize.
