# Sandra Wentworth Williams — Jacob's Room character guide

> Sandra Wentworth Williams in Jacob's Room by Virginia Woolf.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Sandra, Williams

**First appearance:** 0009-x

## Snapshot

A sophisticated married woman whose ease among celebrities and titled relatives masks a restlessness that draws her toward Jacob during his travels abroad.

## Who they are

Sandra Wentworth Williams belongs to the world of Lady Rocksbier's lunches, Boxall the butler, and telegrams arriving mid-cigar — a society Jacob glimpses but never quite owns. Married, admired, and quietly unmoored, she carries the tension of a woman whose composure is a performance, and whose attention to Jacob suggests a desire for something the drawing-room cannot supply. Her presence in the middle of the book marks the moment Jacob's drifting life meets a woman who might actually choose him, and the reader feels the pull of that possibility.
