## Who they are

Thett is the shadow behind the alliance's panic: a hostile power from the sun Ansteck, in the galaxy Venone, whose fleets and molecule-director rays have already fused mountains and hurled them into space. Long ago Thett was Venone's exile planet, a dumping ground for the undesirable, until its scientists cracked the Twin-ray and broke free. Now its aggression forces former enemies — Earthmen, Taj Lamor's race, Ortol, Talso — into a desperate coalition, making Thett the pressure that forges the story's central alliance.
