# Suri — Indian Fairy Tales character guide

> Suri in Indian Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs.

**Role:** supporting

**First appearance:** 0008-the-magic-fiddle

## Snapshot

A faithful wife whose loyalty is tested by separation, disguise, and the long cruelty of a world that rewards patience poorly.

## Who they are

Suri endures the kind of hardship Indian folktales reserve for their most devoted women: a husband lost, a household turned hostile, and years of quiet suffering borne without complaint. Her constancy is not passive — it is the engine that keeps the story's moral universe intact while others scheme around her. She matters because her endurance gives the tale its emotional weight and its eventual reckoning.
