Lynette rides into Camelot demanding a knight to free her sister from a besieging tyrant, and when Gareth is assigned to her she spends the journey calling him a kitchen-knave and refusing to name him. Her scorn is not mere cruelty: it is a test, and a proud woman's way of measuring whether a man's deeds can outrun her contempt. She matters because she forces Gareth to prove himself without the armor of his name, and because her eventual respect is the story's real trophy.
