Geraint's faithful wife, commanded to ride ahead in silence through bandit-haunted wastes, searching her own heart for the failing that made her lord so cold.

## Who they are

Enid rides before Geraint through gray swamps and perilous paths, forbidden to speak a word to him, while he broods on the time he wasted tending her and keeping her true. She prays only that her dear lord be saved from any wound and casts about her mind for the unnoticed failing in herself that made him look so cloudy. When three armed caitiffs wait behind a rock, she breaks his command to warn him, choosing death by his hand over his shame, and her courage tests the jealousy that has driven them into the wilds.
