The Hardy boys receive a letter from their father, Fenton Hardy, about a hidden gold fortune in Lucky Bottom, Montana. After rescuing elderly miner Jadbury Wilson from a blizzard, they learn of his lost gold and a treacherous partner named Dawson. Summoned by a telegram, Frank and Joe travel to Montana, facing deception from a fake lawyer, an ambush by a gang, and a dangerous journey through the wilderness. They capture gang member Slim Briggs, discover an outlaw's notebook with a map, and brave a blizzard to find the Lone Tree mine. Inside, they fight off wolves, navigate treacherous tunnels, and uncover the hidden gold. They are confronted by the outlaw Black Pepper but cleverly disarm and capture him. Back at Hank Shale's cabin, they reunite with their father and learn that Bart Dawson, the supposed traitor, had lost his memory and is innocent. The boys restore the gold to its rightful owner and see justice served.
