# the girl — Household Tales character guide > the girl in Household Tales by Jacob Grimm. **Role:** major **Also known as:** The girl, herself **First appearance:** 0000-the-frog-king-or-iron-henry ## Snapshot Sent into frozen woods in a paper frock to find strawberries, she shares her last bread with three dwarfs and is rewarded with gold and beauty. ## Who they are She is the obedient stepdaughter whose beauty and patience provoke her stepmother's envy, and whose kindness to three little men in the forest earns gifts of growing loveliness, gold from her mouth, and a king's hand.
