First appearance: Maid Maleen
As a supporting figure in Household Tales, Maid Maleen is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
The beautiful princess imprisoned for seven years, who later becomes a scullion and eventually marries her true love.
Maleen defies her father for the sake of a suitor, and her punishment is a lightless imprisonment that would break most people. Her constancy is the point: she endures silence, hunger, and the collapse of everything she knew, and emerges still expecting to find her prince. The tale's early arc rests on whether such loyalty can survive the world's indifference, and Maleen's quiet stubbornness is the answer it keeps testing.
