Exiled Samian nobleman who trades a red cloak with a young Persian prince and later returns as tyrant on the strength of that favor.

## Who they are

Syloson is a man without a city, drifting in the shadow of his brother Polycrates and then of Persian power. His fortunes rest on a small kindness done to Darius before Darius was king, a debt the Great King later repays with soldiers and a throne. He matters because his restoration shows how Greek island politics ran through Susa, and how personal memory, not principle, could redraw the map of the Aegean.
