## Snapshot

A prince of the church who preaches against malice while nursing a bitter feud with Gloucester, trading holy office for political knives.

## Who they are

Winchester is the wealthy, proud churchman whose quarrel with the Lord Protector nearly erupts into street violence among their servants before Warwick and the young king force a public reconciliation. He offers Gloucester 'hand for hand' while privately vowing he does not mean it, a hypocrisy the king himself gently exposes. His rivalry with Gloucester splits the court at the very moment England needs unity, making him an early architect of the realm's internal fracture.
