## Who they are

Montjoy is France's official messenger, the voice through which demands, defiances, and — eventually — admissions of defeat travel between the two sides. He matters because the play measures the shifting fortunes of the war through his errands: the same herald who once delivered France's scorn returns to ask Henry's leave to bury the French dead.
