Who is Clara Sesemann?

Clara Sesemann is the wealthy Frankfurt girl who becomes Heidi’s friend — polite, ill, confined to a wheelchair, hungry for companionship. Heidi’s return to the alp eventually brings Clara there for a summer that builds her strength until she walks.

Clara represents city refinement needing mountain grounding. Her gratitude, not pity, defines the friendship. Grandmama mentors both girls. Peter’s jealousy targets Clara’s chair because he fears losing Heidi — conflict drives Clara’s recovery attempt. Name her role in healing theme, not only “sick girl.”
