> Kate Daly in Harry Heathcote of Gangoil by Anthony Trollope.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Kate, poor Kate

**First appearance:** 0000-i-gangoil

## Snapshot

Harry Heathcote's bright, pretty sister, whose charm unsettles the neighbor her brother counts as an enemy.

## Who they are

Kate Daly lives at Gangoil with her sister and brother-in-law, riding out with the men and watching Harry's anxieties with wistful, anxious eyes. She is winning and unguarded enough that Giles Medlicot, riding home beside her, finds the bush suddenly far less lonely. Her presence softens the hard edges of the feud and quietly opens the possibility that the two households might yet be drawn together rather than set against each other.
