# Jacko — Harry Heathcote of Gangoil character guide

> Jacko in Harry Heathcote of Gangoil by Anthony Trollope.

**Role:** supporting

**First appearance:** 0000-i-gangoil

## Snapshot

Harry's loyal, rough-edged stockman, forever sniffing out plots at Boolabong and eager to see the Brownbies jailed.

## Who they are

Jacko is a bush hand at Gangoil, introduced to the station through the German, Karl Bender, and he hates the Brownbie clan with a fervor that borders on superstition. He rides at Harry's heels, brings breathless midnight reports of Georgie and Boscobel gathering at Boolabong, and takes a boyish pleasure in danger — striking a match in dry grass just to see how easily it catches. His gossip and vigilance feed Harry's suspicions and push the plot toward its confrontations.
