**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** the merry Khan Mahomá, Khan

**First appearance:** 0001-hadji-mur-d

## Snapshot

The merry Avar whose blood-feud with Hadji Murád has been buried under sworn brotherhood, and whose songs give the mountain war its haunting voice.

## Who they are

Khan Mahomá belongs to Hadji Murád's small circle of murids, a sworn brother whose cheerful manner masks a history of deadly feud between the two men. His high, clear tenor carries the song of that very blood-feud, which Hadji Murád listens to with closed eyes and calls a wise song. His presence deepens the portrait of mountain life that so captivates Butler, showing loyalty and vengeance bound together in a single code.
