## Explanation

Golf is presented as a test of moral character, where a player's reaction to bad shots, slow play, or cheating reveals their true nature and fitness for life's challenges.

George's drastic change from silent to garrulous illustrates how temperament can shift and affect character.

The central theme: Mitchell's fiery temperament versus the ideal of Stoic calm, as advocated by the Oldest Member and Marcus Aurelius.

The chapter contrasts Wallace's earlier arrogance with his humbling experience, and the Oldest Member's commentary underscores how golf reveals true character.
