## Who they are

Rollo Podmarsh is the last person Mary Kent expects to meet: a Jack Dempsey lookalike whose mother still calls him darling and frets over his health. He plays golf only for the appetite it gives him, until Mary's arrival makes him want to be something more than a weedier specimen. His secret pipe and his longing to improve his game are the first stirrings of a man trying to grow up in a hurry.
