Bradbury Fisher is a wealthy Long Island golfer whose chief comforts are fine weather, a shrinking handicap, and Vosper, the ducal butler he prizes above all possessions. His fragile contentment is menaced by his visiting mother-in-law, a champion sniffer, and by the schemes of his old friend Rupert Worple, just out of Sing-Sing. His escalating attempts to protect his household set the comic machinery of the sequel in motion.
