## Snapshot

A wealthy, tyrannical merchant who takes Gil Blas on as a clerk, wielding his fortune like a weapon and his temper like a whip.

## Who they are

Siffredi belongs to the class of rich commoners whose money buys them power but never the manners or generosity to wear it gracefully. His household is a small kingdom of ledgers and grudges, where Gil Blas learns that a merchant's favor is as brittle as his credit. He matters because he embodies the kind of petty despotism Gil Blas must survive and study before he can climb higher.
