# How does Fred Gross Stories develop the theme of Neighborly Rivalry and Feuds?

> Fred Gross Stories by Ring Lardner

## Answer

Fred Gross Stories by Ring Lardner develops Neighborly Rivalry and Feuds across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

A significant portion of the narrative is devoted to the petty conflicts with neighbors, particularly the Hamiltons and Carpenters. These feuds involve snubs, pranks (like hanging a fake smallpox sign), and retaliations, illustrating how social tensions in a close-knit suburb can escalate into absurd and childish behavior.

Fred's plan to embarrass the Hamiltons and Carpenters reflects the intense social rivalry and desire for revenge among neighbors.

The chapter details an escalating feud between Fred and the Hamiltons, involving pranks and harassment.
