## Snapshot

A neighboring king whose grievances and alliances thread through Manuel's rise, standing for the ordinary politics that persist beneath all sorcery.

## Who they are

Raymond Bérenger belongs to the world of kings and quarrels that Manuel must navigate as he makes his figure among men. His name surfaces in the disputes and grievances that shape Manuel's campaigns, and his friendship or enmity marks the shifting ground of alliances. Against the uncanny business of Suskind and the Léshy, Raymond represents the stubbornly human order of thrones and grievances that Manuel both serves and outgrows.
