# How does Electra develop the theme of Vengeance and Justice?

> Electra by Sophocles

## Answer

Electra by Sophocles develops Vengeance and Justice across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

The central plot revolves around Orestes and Electra's quest to avenge their father Agamemnon's murder, with the Delphic oracle commanding blood for blood, raising questions about whether personal vengeance can be reconciled with divine or moral justice.

The endnotes reference the curse of Myrtilus and the avenging son of Amphiaraus, underscoring the theme of retribution that drives the plot.
