# How does El Filibusterismo end?

> El Filibusterismo by José Rizal

## Answer

Simoun’s planned catastrophe at the wedding fiesta does not deliver the clean revolution he imagined. The plot unravels; Simoun flees wounded and dies after confessing to Padre Florentino. The priest condemns vengeance as a method even while acknowledging the justice of the anger, and the jewel-chest of corrupted wealth is thrown into the sea.

The ending refuses both colonial triumph and Simoun’s nihilist victory. Hope is deferred to a people not yet ready — a bitter, famous last note. Pair with the failed-enlightenment concept: schools and bombs both fail inside this book’s present.
