Chapter 2
Dracula
The opening chapter introduces Jonathan Harker, a young English solicitor, as he travels to Transylvania to meet with Count Dracula, a client interested in purchasing property in England. Harker's journey becomes increasingly eerie as he encounters superstitious locals who warn him against traveling to the castle. Upon arrival, he is greeted by the mysterious Count, and soon realizes he is a prisoner in the castle, setting the stage for the novel's central conflict.

Jonathan Harker's Journey to the Carpathians
Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania to meet Count Dracula, encountering superstitious locals, beautiful but ominous landscapes, and a growing sense of dread as he approaches the Borgo Pass.
Chapter 4
Chapter II
Jonathan Harker arrives at Castle Dracula and is greeted by Count Dracula, who proves to be a courteous and mysterious host. Harker observes the Count's peculiar appearance and learns about Transylvanian superstitions, including the blue flames marking hidden treasure. Dracula questions Harker extensively about England and his new estate, revealing his desire to blend in as a stranger in London. Harker explores the castle's library, which contains many English books, and is given freedom to roam except for locked doors.
Chapter 5
Chapter III
Jonathan Harker, imprisoned in Castle Dracula, observes the Count crawling down the castle wall like a lizard and realizes his captor is no ordinary man. He attempts to explore the castle but finds all doors locked. Dracula recounts the warlike history of the Szekelys, claiming descent from Attila and Dracula. Later, Harker is visited in his sleep by three vampire women who approach him with a mix of longing and terror, one nearly biting his throat before being interrupted.
