# George Strümpfli — Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler character guide

> George Strümpfli in Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler by Norbert Jacques.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** George, George Hinrichsen, Hinrichsen

**First appearance:** 0001-dr-mabuse-the-gambler

## Snapshot

Mabuse's driver and enforcer, a man who carries out orders without flinching and knows the doctor's wishes before they are spoken.

## Who they are

George is the shadow at Mabuse's shoulder, driving the car, removing the gas-flask, delivering the knife-edged messages that keep the doctor's household in line. He is the one who tells Cara that the master's will is like a sledgehammer, and he says it without cruelty, as a man who has long since stopped being surprised by what devotion costs. His presence in the early chapters establishes that Mabuse's power is not merely intellectual but logistical, enforced by men who have surrendered their own judgment to his.
