## Snapshot

A woman the world has branded 'fallen,' she returns with a fury that makes respectable London flinch and old wrongs demand settling.

## Who they are

Alice Marwood moves through the novel's shadow-world of debt, shame, and grudge, her bitterness sharpened by years of punishment for a crime others escaped. Her hunger for revenge fixes on those who used and discarded her, and she becomes a dark mirror to the respectable cruelty that ruined her. In the early-middle arc she is a threat and a warning: proof that the city's outcasts keep accounts of their own.
