Doctor Syn · Question
How does Doctor Syn develop the theme of Memory and Legacy?
Answer
Doctor Syn by Russell Thorndike develops Memory and Legacy across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.
The book concludes by reflecting on how Doctor Syn is remembered fondly by Dymchurch folk despite his crimes, suggesting that charisma and community service outweigh moral judgment in legacy.
Clegg's secret treasure and the memory of his pirate legacy are central to the plot, as Doctor Syn acts as the keeper of that legacy for Imogene's future.
Doctor Syn is never forgotten by those who knew him; his capstan song and the adventures of Dymchurch live on in memory.
