## Who they are

Priscilla Wimbush holds court from her boudoir, sucking a silver pencil over her horoscopes and cheerfully interrupting guests before they can answer her. She has buried thousands on racecourses, forcing Henry to sell his Primitives to the Americans, and now credits the Stars with every win. Her breezy egotism and occult accounting make her the novel's comic engine of money, marriage, and muddle.
