# How does Cornelli develop the theme of Class and Social Mobility?

> Cornelli by Johanna Spyri

## Answer

Cornelli by Johanna Spyri develops Class and Social Mobility across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

The contrast between the wealthy Hellmut estate and the struggling Halm family's garret highlights economic disparity, while the Halm daughters' artistic ambitions and the guardian's practical advice reflect tensions around social advancement through work versus education.

The Halm children's looming loss of artistic education due to financial constraints underscores class limitations on personal aspirations.
