> The Whosis Kid in Continental Op Stories by Dashiell Hammett.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** the Whosis Kid, The Kid, The Whosis Kid, Kid, the Kid

**First appearance:** 0004-bodies-piled-up

## Snapshot

A sallow young stickup man from Boston, the Whosis Kid moves through San Francisco with a gun and a habit of doubling back on his own trail.

## Who they are

The Kid is a robbery specialist, which makes him worth the Continental's time, and the Op tails him from a fight through lunch rooms and streetcars to a dingy Golden Gate Avenue rooming house. He is cautious, alone, and clearly working toward something, though nobody at the agency has a file on him yet. His careful tradecraft and the coming war between gunmen give the Op a chance to hover on the fringes and profit.
