> Lillian Shan in Continental Op Stories by Dashiell Hammett.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Lillian Shan

**First appearance:** 0036-the-house-in-turk-street

## Snapshot

A young woman drawn into a Chinatown intrigue, she helps the Continental Op navigate a world where loyalty and danger wear the same face.

## Who they are

Lillian Shan moves between two worlds, trusted enough by her schoolmates and family to open doors the Op cannot, yet vulnerable to the men who circle her with false affection. When the Op warns her that a suitor may be arranging her absence, she resists the implication even as she agrees to help, caught between loyalty and the evidence mounting around her. She matters because her courage and her connections make the investigation possible, and because the danger she faces raises the stakes of every move the Op makes.
