Chapter 1
Shadows in the Moonlight
Conan, now a pirate captain, navigates treacherous waters and confronts supernatural horrors in a ruined city, facing both human and otherworldly enemies.
Chapter 2
I
A Yuetshi fisherman, stranded on the mysterious island of Xapur after a storm, discovers a ruined dome and a seemingly preserved corpse lying on a golden block. Driven by greed, he takes a jeweled dagger from the body, which causes the dead man to suddenly revive. The revived giant kills the fisherman with ease, revealing his superhuman strength and hostility.
Chapter 3

Jehungir Agha, lord of Khawarizm, and his counsellor Ghaznavi devise a plot to lure the kozak chief Conan away from his men and trap him alone on the island of Xapur. They plan to use the captive Nemedian girl Octavia as bait, forcing her to attract Conan's attention during a parley. Octavia rebels against the scheme but is threatened with torture and submits.
Chapter 4
III
Octavia escapes captivity from Jelal Khan's castle by climbing down a rope made of torn tapestries, riding a horse through the night, and swimming to an island. She climbs steps carved in the cliff, hears a drum, and is captured by an unseen human presence in the darkness.
Chapter 5
IV
Conan, now a kozak leader, returns to the island of Xapur seeking the golden-haired woman he saw in Jehungir Agha's pavilion. He discovers that the ruins he visited a month ago have been replaced by a massive, intact city of green stone, defying natural law. Despite his initial panic, he presses on after finding a scrap of silk and a footprint, scales the wall, and enters the silent city. Inside, he finds a sleeping girl and a drugged man, then descends into a dark tunnel beneath the city.
