## Who they are

Sol Levy walks the western horizon bent nearly double under his pack, a recurring figure in the Cravats' yard and a small ritual in the town's slow weaving-together. Sabra waits for him to bring sewing-machine needles; the children race to greet him. In a raw settlement still finding its pattern, the peddler is one of the first threads — commerce, contact, and the outside world arriving on foot.
