## Who they are

Cimarron Cravat is nearly eight when visiting Venable relatives descend, and he disconcerts them by calmly explaining how white men broke the Indians' spirit and stole their buffalo. He has Sabra's dark eyes and Yancey's charm, mannerisms, and unsettling directness. His adult speech and romantic bearing make him a mirror of his father's magnetism — and a quiet reproach to the genteel cousins who named him foolishly.
