## Who they are

Mr. Rand is the tenant nobody quite knows, a few weeks in a Montmorency House flat, no visitors, civil but distant, and then gone. When a corpse is found in the well beneath his window, his absence becomes the case's most conspicuous fact. Reggie Fortune suspects the whole affair is the work of an able, masterful madman whose logic will look perfectly rational once combed out, and Rand is the shape that logic keeps pointing toward.
