## Who they are

Lady Mary was the Earl of Plimstock's daughter who married millionaire Jonathan Danton and fled with their infant when the marriage soured, leaving behind a will that tied the estate in knots for twenty years. Salter alone suspects the mysterious woman in black is her, and he ties her to the Blue Hand and to the dye-works where women's hands turn blue with indigo. Until she chooses to speak, she remains the hinge on which every claim to the Danton fortune turns.
