> Bellarion the Fortunate by Rafael Sabatini

## Answer

Bellarion the Fortunate by Rafael Sabatini develops Love and Manipulation across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

Romantic and emotional attachments are frequently used as tools of manipulation, as seen in the Countess Beatrice's overtures to Bellarion and the Princess Valeria's relationships, where love is entangled with ambition and political calculation.

The Countess's growing possessiveness and jealousy hint at emotional manipulation and unrequited desire.

The Countess uses feigned love and emotional manipulation to try to win Bellarion, who resists her advances.

Carmagnola uses Valeria's fears and hopes to secure her pledge, intertwining romantic desire with political ambition.
