## Explanation

Miss Edyth Vale is portrayed as both a vulnerable society girl and a determined actor in the mystery, challenging traditional gender roles through her agency and secret actions.

A woman driving a private car and entering Hume's late at night challenges conventional expectations, and Pendleton's reaction hints at her possible identity.

The Role of Women is one of the patterns Ashton-Kirk, Investigator by John T. McIntyre returns to. The chapter notes above are from this edition’s companions — open those chapters to see how the book stages the idea rather than treating the theme as a slogan.
