First appearance: xiv a chance acquaintance
As a supporting figure in Ashenden, Anastasia Alexandrovna Leonidov is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
A Russian woman with whom Ashenden has a romantic affair.
Anastasia Alexandrovna moves through revolutionary circles with a woman of character's certainty, discussing Turgenev and Tolstoy while her gentle, unworthy husband Vladimir trails behind her. Ashenden's old passion for her returns when he needs her help in Russia, and she becomes both a link to his romantic past and a practical ally in a country he cannot read. Her mixture of ideology, appetite, and loyalty makes her one of the book's most vivid presences.
