Duel of Wits
The central conflict is an intellectual battle between the master thief Arsène Lupin and the detective Herlock Sholmes, characterized by elaborate schemes, counter-schemes, and psychological warfare.
Crime and Justice
The narrative explores the tension between law enforcement and criminality, with Lupin portrayed as a charming, almost heroic outlaw who outwits the police, while Sholmes represents the pursuit of justice through logic and deduction.
Identity and Disguise
Characters frequently adopt false identities, disguises, and secret personas, such as Lupin's transformations and the 'Blonde Lady' being revealed as Clotilde Destange, highlighting the theme of deception and hidden selves.
Love and Sacrifice
The relationship between Lupin and Clotilde Destange shows how love can drive individuals to commit crimes and sacrifice their morals, as Clotilde admits she acted against her conscience for Lupin's sake.
Class and Greed
The pursuit of wealth and status motivates many characters, from Professor Gerbois's desire for the lottery million to the theft of the blue diamond, reflecting societal obsession with material gain and class aspirations.
Cunning vs. Brute Force
Lupin consistently outmaneuvers his opponents through intelligence and planning rather than violence, while Sholmes relies on deductive reasoning, illustrating that wit often triumphs over physical strength.
Honor Among Thieves
Despite being a criminal, Lupin operates by a code of honor, showing respect for worthy opponents like Sholmes and avoiding unnecessary violence, which complicates the moral dichotomy between hero and villain.
