  2. Chapter 2

    Scene I

    In Alexandria, Philo and Demetrius observe Antony's transformation from a great military leader into a fool besotted with Cleopatra. Antony dismisses news from Rome, declaring his love for Cleopatra above all else, while Cleopatra teases him about his obligations to Fulvia and Caesar. The scene ends with Demetrius expressing sorrow at Antony's decline.

  3. Chapter 3

    Scene II

    Antony receives news of Fulvia's death and the political turmoil in Rome, including Pompey's rebellion and Parthian advances. He resolves to break free from Cleopatra's influence and return to Rome. Meanwhile, Charmian, Iras, Alexas, and a Soothsayer engage in playful fortune-telling, and Cleopatra senses Antony's distraction.

  4. Chapter 4

    Scene III

    Cleopatra manipulates Antony with feigned illness and jealousy, accusing him of betrayal and testing his devotion. Antony explains he must leave for Rome due to political pressures, including the rebellion of Sextus Pompeius and the death of his wife Fulvia. Their emotional exchange reveals the tension between love and duty.

  5. Chapter 5

    Scene IV

    Caesar and Lepidus discuss Antony's decadent behavior in Alexandria and receive news of Pompey's growing strength at sea. Caesar criticizes Antony's neglect of duty, while Lepidus defends him. The scene ends with plans to assemble a council to address the threat from Pompey.
